Jazz Carolina 2006: Cold, Rainy, & Fun

Jazz Carolina 2006: Cold, Rainy, & Fun

Arts, Entertainment, Reviews

The ninth year of Jazz Carolina may well be the coldest on record, but it didn't keep the crowds away. Hundreds of residents and guests braved the damp cold weather to enjoy the festival, which included local performers including the Coker College Dancers. Tents blocked the end East Carolina Avenue, between Fourth and Fifth streets.

Drizzly weather delayed the start of the featured act; volunteers pitched in to wipe the wet chairs with paper towels brought over by Mitchell Dampier from Mitchell's Florist, and towels brought over by Mrs. Betty Wiggins and Bizzell's restaurant. Community spirit at it's best!

The cold didn't keep my favorite Hartsville man, Clayton Richardson of People to People away- he tipped his hat to all the folks that helped bring the After Hours Block Party to Hartsville this year.

Martha Bassett and the Camel City Swingers was worth the wait.

The band played songs that were great to sing along to. If you missed it, have a listen on their website: Camel City Swingers There you can see how lovely Martha Bassett is behind the hat she had to wear to stay warm!

There was a street performer working the crowd juggling fire, balls, and more...he delighted the children that braved the cold weather, including this little lady that got a lesson in how to juggle not long before this photo was snapped.

Jazz Carolina 2006 Duane Childers

It sure was nice to see that Duane Childers does manage to get some time off from toting a Hartsville Messsenger camera with him at every function!

There are some people that just manage to always be at every function, and Barbara Carroway just manages to always be that person here in Hartsville!

Jazz Carolina 2006 Twin Beauties

Here she is with the equally ever-present Teresa Mack, enjoying the music and fellowship of Jazz Carolina 2006. If you ever think there is nothing to do in Hartsville, you obviously haven't been following these two ladies around.

The music must have been good for the coffee drinking afficianados of the Midnight Rooster to brave the cold weather.

Thanks to Judi Elvington and the Downtown Development Group, Coker College, Bizzels, Southern Candy Kitchen and the Midnight Rooster for another great Jazz Carolina.
