Have some old scratched or unusable cd's laying around the house?

This snippet from the Sonoco News has been circulating for employees, and a thoughtful parent thought that the rest of the community may want to help.

"Help Hartsville Middle School win the CD-Palmetto Tree at the South Carolina State Museum's annual Earth Day celebration Sat, April 21th.

Volunteers from Sonoco and the Columbia Paper Stock Dealers (PSD) facility will be using old CDs to build, of all things, a Palmetto tree.

The South Carolina school that collects the most CDs and brings them to the event will win the CD tree. PSD's Jane Hiller urges every South Carolina employee to collect no-longer used CDs at work and home and donate them to their neighborhood school.

Hartsville Middle School is participating in the competition and is asking Sonoco employees to give their old, unwanted CDs to a parent of a student at the school before April 19. Employees who don't know any Hartsville Middle School parents can forward their used CDs to Cheryl Smith, B07"

Give all used cd's to a HMS student, or bring them to Sonoco- the drop-off location is in the main Sonoco Lobby (the building with the circular drive where the statue and the flags are).

Contact person is: Cheryl Smith- 843-339-6381.

CD's are needed NO LATER THAN April 19 in order to have time to count them before the actual contest on April 21.

HARTSVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL WON!

Thanks mostly in part to the large number of cd's that the Hartsville community donated to Cheryl Smith and her son Raleigh, a 6th grade student at HMS, the Hartsville Middle School was the winner by a long-shot. Raleigh was also interviewed on television.

BRAVO!

I will post a photo as soon as I procure one.

This is truly community spirit in action!

Good Job, Jana

Thanks for the information, Jana. I had no idea that HMS won the contest. I also never heard about the contest until your posts. I have a 7th grader at that school, but don't get much news. I've tried to download the newsletter on the HMS webpage, but don't seem to have the right software program to accept the download.

Cheryl Smith (in white) with her son, Raleigh (in blue) were diligent in their quest to gather the most used cd's!
