REVIEW: This show is wonderful! The actors sing as well as they can act; the music is fabulous with a saxophone, clarinet, keyboard and cello; the story is familiar straight from the comic strip; and the laugh factor is high! You'll love seeing Snoopy as he imagines fighting the Red Baron from atop his dog house, Charlie as he pines for the "little red haired girl", Lucy as she falls for Shroeder, teases her little brother Linus, and picks on poor old Charlie Brown, and as little sister Sally comes up with a "new philosophy".... it's a great show!

Support local theater, and especially support our local schools!

This is the LAST NIGHT!

Come out and see the show, it's hilarious, the songs & music are great, and you can see Spiderman 3 any old time!

Also, you'll get a sneak peek inside the new Hartsville Middle School- it's a fabulous facility.

Sure to make you laugh

We saw the show last night and it was truly wonderful. Hard to find a better way to spend your evening than supporting these kids.

Where Were You?

Ardie Arvidson wrote that in her last column, about attendance at the last Hartsville Community Players play and the Hartsville Civic Chorale concert "Mass of the Children".

Now it is my turn to ask... "Where were you?"

This show had performers that were truly amazing. All of the students worked long and hard not only memorizing lines, but learning songs that they performed to with live musicians- HHS Band members Nichelle Robinson on saxophone, Emilio Craig on clarinet, James Beaumier as Musical Director and performing on keyboard, and HMS student Chris Beaumier on cello.

Dustin Moree as Charlie Brown was exceptional, his singing, acting and comedic timing were that of adult professional quality for a young man only a junior; Patrick Doughty as Linus was so hilarious and such a strong singer that he captured the audience's attention each time he was on. Jade Longfellow as Sally was a strong comedic presence, and she even surprised me- her mother!- by how she can belt out a song; Shannon Matthews as Lucy was just wonderful, and has a very beautiful voice that was very consistent night after night, as was her comedic ability; Jon Moree as Shroeder was just as strong a performer, with an excellent singing voice; the two Snoopy's, Chris James & Laura Richie, both played wonderful Snoopy characters, each with their own style and comedy, and were equally strong.

The director, Lynne Windham, painted the set pieces with her assistant, student Lee Bellows- who also provided the lighting design. Katie Edwards & Lori (will have get her name!) were very helpful as prompters during rehearsals and provided stage manager help. And, as always, Adam Weiner was a tremendous help as he provided help each evening with sound, lights, and everything in between at the fantastic new auditorium at the Hartsville Middle School.

So, where were YOU? We have this great new space, there was a great show, but it was poorly attended. Performers of the arts need an audience just as much as a sports team needs fans. I was there each night, and felt badly for the kids that they didn't have bigger audiences- although Friday night's crowd was definitely the largest.

One reason could be the lack of funding that results in lack of money for advertising- but in reality, folks just don't go out much for live entertainment anymore.

But one mother did, and sent this e-mail out to the network of homeschool parents, which I will share:

Our family went Thurs. night to see the play and we ALL loved
it!!! Cousins went, too, and 2 barely 5 year olds laughed and
laughed as did the older kids and adults. There is humor for all
ages as well as good music (Jim Beaumier) to accompany all the
singing stars of the play.

I hope some of you might have the time to take your families.

Thank you to the students and adults that put on this great show, and a BIG THANK YOU to the people that attended.
